Striving to win at life, golf

It was the second time Lt. Col. Ken Dwyer, the Hunter Army Airfield Garrison commander and his four-man team took second place in a Hunter garrison golf scramble since he became commander in June. Dwyer enjoys the monthly scrambles and the comradery with players but when it comes to losing the first-place trophy two-out-of-two- times, his competitive nature tells him to get out there and practice.

Hunter commander plays final 18

It was the perfect weather on May 31, for nine teams of golfers, including commanders - Lt. Col. Mike Squires, Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander; Lt. Col. Jason West, commander, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, and Lt. Col. Daryl Von Hagel, commander, 603rd Aviation Support Bn. - to play one final round of golf with commanders before they leave their respective posts at Hunter for other assignments.

Cottonbalers Run Across Georgia

During the Memorial Day weekend, Team Cottonbaler, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry finished second out of 21 teams in the annual "Run Across Georgia", a 260-mile run in honor of those people who have championed the American Spirit.

Hunter hosts Dahlke Memorial Challenge

Seventy-four competitors braved the stormy weather on Hunter Army Airfield Saturday to test their land navigation, kayaking, bicycling, running and problem-solving skills. They were also there to honor their fallen friend, Staff Sgt. Jason Dahlke, in the Memorial Energy Adventure Challenge which bears his name.

3rd ID revives basketball with conference wins

The 3rd Infantry Division has not had a basketball team in 10 years, so Chief Warrant Officer 3 Aaron L. Bryant built one. After coaching teams from Camp Casey, Korea and Fort Knox, Kentucky, as well as the All-Army Women's team, Bryant was determined to bring the intramural sport to Fort Stewart to engage the community and Soldiers.

Marksmen, Volunteers wanted for 3-Gun Shoot

The Fort Stewart 3-Gun Club is looking for participants and volunteers for upcoming events on Fort Stewart. Beginning matches have started and continue every fourth Saturday of the month, March through June. While the schedule is still developing, opportunities are already available for the various interest levels. A pistol only division with a single stage is available for those that want to try; but not sure about committing to the entire match.

224 MI downs 603rd Avn. 45 - 33, take Hunter basketball championship

Raphael Dawson scored 16 points, all in the second half, and the 224th Military Intelligence Battalion's intramural basketball team used a stifling defense to down Company C, 603rd Aviation Support Battalion 45-33 March 6, in Hunter Army Airfield's Tominac Fitness Center.
